This innovative ground fridge is a contemporary 21st century take on the classic root cellar. It features a built-in staircase to safely descend and boasts a storage capacity of six refrigerators – enough to store the contents of a 2,600 square foot garden.
Ground Fridge by Floris Schoonderbeek. Nominated for the Dutch Design Awards 2015. Modern houses are often built without a basement. The Ground Fridge is an innovative version of the traditional root cellar. When buried and covered with the excavated earth the spherical Ground Fridge makes use of the insulating effect of the ground. The temperature in the fridge remains stable throughout the year between 10 and 12° C.
