In Sept. 1995, the Cowboys signed free agent cornerback Deion Sanders to a $35 million contract, making him the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL. Dallas is hoping its latest free agent cornerback, Brandon Carr, can match Sanders’ success. The former Chief signed a five-year, $51 million deal to shore up the Cowboys defensive backfield. The move has already paid off, says SI’s Chris Burke, who noted that Carr picked off Philip Rivers twice in the recent Dallas-San Diego game.
